Man Killed In West New York Apartment Fire: Prosecutors

A 55-year-old man was killed in an apartment fire in West New York on Sunday, August 20, authorities said.

At 5 a.m.  North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue was notified of a fire at an apartment above 6213 Bergenline Avenue, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said. Upon arrival, first responders found heavy smoke coming from a bedroom within the apartment, Suarez said. 

While firefighters were battling the blaze, they found Adrian Hernandez-Bienes unresponsive in the bedroom, Suarez said. He was pronunced dead at the scene, Suarez said. Two other occupants were able to escape unharmed.

The fire began in the bedroom, according to a preliminary investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force determined the fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated by The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force,  North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue and the West New York Police Department, Suarez said.
